Towards Sustainability
Having received positive feedback and incorporating the various constructive comments from these trial runs, the next step was to get formal recognition of the outputs of the CONTESSA project as components of the Royal Government of Cambodia’s teacher-training program.
- This is in addition to the expectation that the modules will be actively incorporated into relevant courses in the UC’s College of Education.
- This is under the final stages of implementation for the next edition (2023-2027) of the UC Undergraduate and Graduate Studies catalogs.
Meetings with MoEYS In her role as national coordinator, Ms. Meas Nearyroth (Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia) was responsible for establishing contact and liaising with members of the Departments of Teacher Training, Curriculum Development, and Primary Education about the possibility of the project’s output being adopted as part of MoEYS’ portfolio for the preparation of teacher trainers, teacher trainees and in-service teachers at the primary level..
Building on this, representatives from both universities attended a meeting on 12th April, 2022 at the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports, chaired by His Excellency Dr. Hang Chuon Naron and including the Director General of Education and the Chief Executive Officers of the Departments of Primary Education, Curriculum Development, and Training. The Minister was most supportive, being very encouraging in his response to the various presentations: whilst noting the need to improve on the quality of the Khmer translations in order to be acceptable to the Ministry, he recommended that a trial be run in order to get feedback from practitioners in the field.
A Field Trial Following up on this encouraging feedback, PUC and UC ran a TTTW at the Siem Reap Regional Teacher Education Center with 18 trainers, which was well-received.
Official Recognition After revisions of the Khmer translations of the five modules, these have been uploaded on to the MoEYS website for implementation in their teacher-training programs.
